Finn Day
Team Finn celebrate today as "Finn" day in remembrance of Finn Sullivan, who died from cancer 2 years ago today. Their mantra is Run Jump Bounce Sing Love Smile Ride; something Finn loved to do even with cancer.
I had the opportunity to hear the Finn's speak in Langley BC while riding in SNKCR. Finn's father Patrick spoke about how Finn lived and about why they as a Team do what they do and it was heart-felt and motivational. Patrick's words resonate why we all do what we do.
"I ride for life, I ride for living, maybe someday, just maybe someday someone will tell us they can because we ride." (Patrick Finn, Team Finn).
Today I did a little jumping and playing myself; what great medicine these simple words can be when you try to actually live by them.
How about we all take our "medicine" today and do some running, jumping, bouncing, singing, loving, smiling and riding; you'll be amazed at what it can do it for the world around you.

I'm Back
Well it's been many months since I posted a blog on the team site. Since then the team has logged countless kilometers and raised an amazing $36,399 for Tour For Kids; 100% of which goes to the 3 amazing kids cancer camps (Camp Oouchigeas, Camp Quality and Camp Trillium).
In addition to that we raised $29,779 as part of my Sears National Kids Cancer Ride across Canada; 100% of this goes to children's oncology research and support programs.
Since the start of Team Amazing Amelia in 2007 we have raised a little over $120,000! An amazing feat and could only have been done with your generous help. Many thanks from all of us at Team Amazing Amelia.
With the [outdoor] cycling season starting to wind down I find myself still longing for the open road. I may not be training for the Sears National anymore but I'm looking to keep in the road during the winter months. Hopefully I'll see some brave cyclists on the road this winter.
As part of our winter training program we will once again be holding an indoor cycling class. The details for our fall/winter indoor spin class will be published over the next month. Typically we start our classes in mid/late November and run them through to April. The funds raised are donated to Tour For Kids.

Get'n Studded

Dave Swindells and I just finished a great Sunday Road ride. Well kinda of a road/cyclocross ride as we were both on our CX bikes.
Was the maiden voyage for my CX bike and I was running with my studded tires. Boy do they ever grip the road and ice; which is a blessing on the ice but makes you work like a dog the entire time. The road buzz coming off them is kind of melodic after a while. Riding these tires all winter will be great for the training come spring when I can switch back to road tires. Also makes the bike steer like a dump truck as the tires grip the road so well.
We cycled from Limehouse out to Erin and Back, stopping in Erin for a hot cup of coffee. In this neck of the woods most things are closed on Sundays, just another part of country living. Fortunately the Coffee Time is always open and a cup of coffee was just what I needed to catch my breath and shake off the cold. That and we needed to thaw our water bottles as they were starting to look like slushies.
Given it was -6c outside it was a great day for a ride outdoors. Nearly no wind and the roads were relatively clear of ice. The climb into Erin is about 6km long with grades around 4%, making us work hard enough to easily stay warm. I always love the decent on the way home. On the road bike I can typically hammer at speeds in the high 40’s/low 50’s; today it was more like mid 30’s listening to the soft buzz of the tires.
Well I have to go and thaw out a bit.
